It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and love is in the air. Whether you’re thinking of Xs and Os or 1s and 0s, Love Data Week 2018 is full of events and talks that celebrate good data practices and the power of storytelling with data. Follow along with #lovedata18 and #YaleLovesData.

♥ Monday, February 12: Making the Most of Modern GIS (schedule and registration)

Don’t miss a full day (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) of talks, workshops, and networking opportunities related to GIS, with instructors from Esri. Organized by the Center for Science and Social Science Information and the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.

♥ Tuesday, February 13: Data Story Slam (registration)

Share your tales of love, horror, success, and sorrow…preferably related to data. For an authentic coffeehouse/poetry slam vibe, coffee and treats will be provided. 6-7 p.m. in the CSSSI 24-Hour Space.

♥ Wednesday, February 14: Make a Data Valentine (information about the Bass Library and CSSSI events)

To paraphrase Paul Simon: there must be fifty ways to love your data. Here’s an opportunity to let your data know how much you care; make a Valentine and enjoy some candy (we’ll provide the craft supplies and the candy). 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in Bass Library (Thain Cafe) and 12-2 p.m. in the CSSSI 24-Hour Space. 

♥ Thursday, February 15: Datastream for Yale Researchers (registration)

Datastream is a financial time series database relevant to Economics, Political Science, International Studies, Global Affairs, and the School of Management. Learn how to download data in a variety of formats from expert Agnes Terada, a representative from Thomson Reuters’ Datastream team. CSSSI lower level seminar room, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

♥ Friday, February 16: SimplyAnalytics at Yale webinar (registration)

From the comfort of your own home/office, or from the communal space of the CSSSI’s lower level seminar room, participate in a webinar on SimplyAnalytics, a web-based tool for data analysis and visualization. 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

♥ Friday, February 16: Data in the Newsroom with Jake Kara 

Jake Kara, Data Editor of the CT Mirror, will give a talk on telling stories with data. 2-3 p.m. in the International Room, Sterling Memorial Library. Refreshments will be provided. This talk is part of the Day of Data Spring Series.
